Culthan - The Founding Chronicle

The old Culthan was broken by the earth and swallowed by the sea. A handful survived, rebuilt the realm, and opened the gates of a changed world beneath the banner of King Alaric I.

Before the First Fall

Many centuries ago, Culthan stood proud upon a world that seemed eternal. Roads crossed the realm, towers watched over its borders, and generations lived beneath walls raised by hands long forgotten. Then the earth itself turned against them. Without warning, the first great cataclysm tore through Culthan. The ground split open, stone fortresses collapsed, roads vanished into deep fractures, and entire settlements were buried beneath dust and ruin. In a single terrible age, the old order was broken.

The Second Cataclysm

Only a few years passed. The survivors had barely begun to gather among the ruins when the horizon changed. The sea rose with a force no kingdom could resist. A colossal tsunami crossed the world and swallowed nearly everything the earthquake had spared. Valleys became seabeds. Cities disappeared beneath black water. Borders, crowns and ancient claims lost all meaning as the waves consumed the world people had known.

The Last Refuge

Yet humanity did not vanish. Near Culthan, beyond the reach of the deepest flood, a small band of people found shelter. They had little more than fire, memory and the will to endure. Through hunger, cold and the long silence that followed the waters, they survived. They guarded the stories of the fallen realm and waited until the land could be walked again.

From Ash and Salt

When the waters began to withdraw, the survivors returned. They did not find the Culthan their ancestors had known. They found shattered stone, drowned roads and a wilderness growing through the bones of the old world. Still, they raised the first timber walls. They lit the first watchfires. They cleared the first roads and set stone upon stone until a new settlement stood where only ruin had remained. From that stubborn beginning came the new Culthan.

A Changed World

But the cataclysms had changed more than the shape of the land. The old forces no longer moved as they once had. Strange energies stirred beneath broken mountains and drowned ruins. Forgotten places opened. Creatures appeared where none had walked before. Powers once believed to be legend began to cast their shadows across the reborn realm. The world had survived, but it had become something new.

The Gates Open Again

Now the fires of Culthan burn once more. Its walls rise higher with every season. Roads lead outward into lands that have not been fully reclaimed, and beyond those roads waits both danger and glory. The Chronicle is open, and the names written into its next pages have not yet been chosen.
